The government says the Mount St. John Medical Center (MSJMC) will strengthen its maxillofacial surgery program that allows reconstruction of the face and other parts of the head following the detection and removal of cancerous tissue.
The surgery is utilized to end malignant pathology, caused by either oral or neck cancer, with ablative and reconstructive surgery.
Cabinet announced recently that a Cuban surgeon with this specialty has been added to the MSJMC staff, “and the number of patients who would previously have to travel abroad may now elect to have the surgery undertaken in Antigua.”
The MSJMC has already conducted a number of successful kidney transplants this year.
