(PRESS RELEASE)

Key stakeholders and representatives responsible for the upcoming Road Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project (RIRP) are holding discussions regarding the implementation of a Traffic Management Plan (TMP) for the duration of the 20 month project.

A Traffic Management Committee has been established comprising of representatives of the contracting firm, BHM International Limited, officials from the Ministry for Works and Housing, representatives of the Traffic Department of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda and the Antigua and Barbuda Transport Board.

The aim is to develop a comprehensive traffic management plan that will take effect as a result of the traffic congestion likely to occur during the various phases of the RIRP.

Work to rehabilitate Friars Hills Road and Sir George Walter Highway which have a combined estimated traffic volume of over 40 thousand vehicles daily will commence within the first quarter of 2018.

The RIRP is being made possible through grant funding of 13.9 million British Pounds from the United Kingdom Caribbean Infrastructure Partnership Fund (UKCIF) with a commitment of US 11, 000 dollars being committed by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda.

The Department for International Development (DIFID) and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) are the other partners in the project.

The TMP will also include a launch a mass media campaign aimed at ensuring that road users are aware of the diversion routes that will be utilized as a result of the road rehabilitation process.
