Pensioners Association Thanks the Department of Environment for Initiatives Which Benefited Pensioners Across Antigua and Barbuda

in News

The Antigua and Barbuda Pensioners Association has expressed sincere gratitude to the Department of Environment for a series of climate-resilience and community-support initiatives that have positively impacted pensioners throughout Antigua and Barbuda.

During a recent visit to the Department, representatives Winston Benett and Clement Hughes met with the Director of the Department of Environment, Diann Black-Layne. They highlighted the broad benefits delivered through programmes implemented by the Department through the SIRF Fund. Non Governmental Organizations lack the fiduciary standards required to access available funding from international organizations. The Department of Environment, as a result, has been securing funds on behalf of the Pensioners Association, managing the resources and ensuring proper oversight, accountability, and successful execution.

The Pensioners Association reported that pensioners across the country have benefited from several interventions. Their farm received a solar-powered reverse osmosis system, improving water security and operations. The Hurricane Shutters Programme enhanced safety and resilience for older persons, while the Air Conditioning Programme improved comfort for pensioners in community spaces. These initiatives have strengthened the Association’s outreach and contributed to increased engagement from pensioners nationwide.

The Association expressed deep appreciation to the Government and the Department of Environment for their ongoing support and encouraged the continuation of these impactful programmes for the benefit of all pensioners in Antigua and Barbuda.

In response, the Director Black-Layne thanked the Association for their visit and commended them for their commitment to serving the nation’s senior citizens.
