Browne: Antigua and Barbuda Will Not Host Foreign Military Assets

Prime Minister Gaston Browne says Antigua and Barbuda has no interest in hosting foreign military installations or participating in any form of military action.

“I can assure you that Antigua and Barbuda has absolutely no interest in hosting any form of military assets here in the country,” Browne told reporters ahead of a visit by U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) Commander Admiral Alvin Holsey.

Browne added that the twin-island state is “happy” that it does not have any military bases and intends to keep it that way.

Holsey’s visit to the Caribbean, scheduled for October 14–15, includes meetings with Prime Minister Browne and Grenadian Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell. The U.S. Embassy in Bridgetown said the trip underscores Washington’s commitment to working with Eastern Caribbean partners to enhance regional security and stability.

The visit comes as Grenada confirmed it is reviewing a U.S. request to establish a radar system at the Maurice Bishop International Airport.(ABS)
