Prime Minister Gaston Browne has outlined proposals to deepen cooperation between Antigua and Barbuda and Turkiye during talks with the country’s new ambassador, Emriye Bağdagül Ormancı.
Browne suggested forming a technical team to explore opportunities in education, trade, investment and tourism. He proposed a student exchange between Turkish universities and the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus, and training for Antiguans and Barbudans in Turkiye’s tourism sector.
He also noted Antigua and Barbuda’s support for Turkish initiatives in international forums, recognising the country’s role as an emerging global power.
Ambassador Ormancı welcomed the proposals, stressing the need for a legal framework to guide cooperation in education, culture, youth, sport and economic development. She said Turkish firms were interested in investing in the Caribbean, with a business delegation expected to visit soon.
