PM Browne Tours Booby Alley Housing Project

Booby Alley Housing Project Moves Ahead with Climate-Resilient Homes

The Booby Alley housing project in the Point community is advancing steadily, with six buildings already under construction. The development will ultimately deliver 150 modern, climate-resilient condominium-style homes, forming part of a partnership between the governments of Antigua and Barbuda and China.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne described the $100 million initiative as “transformational,” stressing that it is designed to uplift vulnerable families and provide long-term housing security. The project is also part of a wider national housing plan that includes new developments in Jennings and concessionary loans of up to EC$50,000 to help low-income households repair or rebuild homes.

In addition to new construction, the project introduces rent-to-own options at affordable rates. Officials say this will allow residents without property to move towards ownership while improving their standard of living. Browne said the government’s broader aim is to create pathways for more families to transition into middle-class housing over time.

Completion of the Booby Alley development is scheduled for mid-2026, marking what the government calls a major milestone in modernising the Point community.

Authorities have confirmed that strict community rules will be enforced. Browne stated that illegal activities, including drug trafficking, will not be tolerated and could lead to eviction.

Plans are also in place to enhance the area’s environment and sustainability. The Antigua Public Utilities Authority is working with experts from Havana on utility upgrades, while the National Housing team has begun propagating thousands of plants to beautify the grounds. “We want to ensure this does not become a concrete jungle,” Browne said, adding that residents will be expected to help maintain landscaping and manage waste responsibly.

The government maintains the project is central to its wider social housing agenda, aimed at improving living conditions and reshaping communities across the country.
