Police Investigate Break Fisheries
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is currently investigating a break-in at the Fisheries Complex on Market Street, which was discovered early this morning.
The incident came to light at approximately 6:30 am when an employee arrived to begin the work shift.
Upon arrival, the staff member observed that the ice dispatch door was ajar and the padlock was missing.
Recognizing the breach, she immediately alerted the chairman of Antigua Fisheries Limited and the police.
According to initial reports, the suspect(s) utilized a systematic pattern of forced entry to gain entry into the building. The perpetrator(s) broke out sections of multiple interior doors to gain access to several high-security areas, including the chairman’s office, the accountant’s office and the facility’s storage room.
The interior of the building was severely ransacked, indicating that a thorough search of the premises was conducted by the intruder(s).
Investigators stated that a large quantity of groceries was stolen during the raid.
Evidence at the scene suggests that the suspect(s) used a supermarket cart to transport the stolen items out of the facility.
The cart was found nearby in a body of water inside the fisheries complex.
