The Antigua and Barbuda Diabetes Association is encouraging the public to wear blue on Friday in observance of World Diabetes Day.
Public Relations Officer Marina Claxton-Brown said schools and businesses have been invited to take part in the “Go Blue” initiative, which aims to raise awareness about diabetes and promote education on the condition.
This year’s theme, “Diabetes in the Workplace,” highlights the importance of employee wellbeing. Association president Charity Dublin said more structured wellness programmes are needed across local workplaces.
“Healthier employees mean more productive workspaces,” Dublin said. “We want to reduce stigma and encourage people to speak openly about their needs.”
The Association is also reminding those diagnosed with diabetes that support is available through local partners, including the Ministry of Health, the Medical Benefits Scheme, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Several activities are planned, including a worship service at the St John’s Seventh-day Adventist Church on 15 November, and a Screening Day at the Ministry of Public Works on 18 November. A diabetes health fair will follow on 26 November at Moss Medical Centre on Old Parham Road.
