New Year’s Message from the President Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross Society

As we stand at the threshold of a new year, I extend warm greetings and heartfelt gratitude to every volunteer, member, partner, donor, and supporter of the Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross Society.

The year now behind us tested our resolve, refined our purpose, and reminded us why the Red Cross exists. We were called to serve in moments of vulnerability, uncertainty, and need – and time and again, you answered that call with compassion, courage, and professionalism. Because of your commitment, hope reached households, dignity was preserved, lives were touched, and communities were strengthened.

The Red Cross is not a building, a uniform, or a logo. It is people. It is service without discrimination, leadership grounded in integrity, and action guided by humanity. This past year affirmed that when we lead with values, act with accountability, and place communities at the center of our work, transformation is possible – even in the face of adversity.

As we enter this new year, we do so with clarity of vision and renewed determination. We will deepen our impact in disaster preparedness and response, expand community-centered health and social support, invest in youth and volunteer leadership, and continue strengthening our governance and sustainability. Above all, we will remain steadfast in our mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it is found.

The year ahead will bring new challenges – but it will also bring new opportunities to serve, to innovate, and to grow together. Let us move forward united in purpose, anchored in the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and confident that our collective efforts can build safer, healthier, and more resilient communities across Antigua and Barbuda.

On behalf of the Governing Board, I thank you for your trust, your service, and your unwavering belief in the power of humanity.

May 2026 bring strength, wisdom, compassion, and peace to you and your loved ones.

With gratitude and resolve,

Dr. José V. A. Humphreys, MD, MSc (H Edn), MPH PPA, AHCCFP, FFM, FICPS, FAC
President of the Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross Society
