Rotary Club Pediatric Village a success

(Press Release)

The Rotary Club of Antigua Sundown (RCAS) held its 2nd Annual Pediatric Village, a health fair for children ages 4 to 19 years at the T.N. Kirnon Primary School, Saturday, October 14.

“We were able to make a difference in the lives of approximately two hundred and twenty (220) children today. I can truly say we showed up and we made an impact – And I’m grateful for the support of all our partners who make this event possible, as well my entire Club our fellow Rotarians from our sister club (Rotary Club of Antigua) and also our Rotaractors and Interactors,” said RCAS President, Diana Browne.

“We are constantly looking for ways to address the needs of our community,” she said. “People come together and work in a cohesive, focused manner to help children in need. This event was Rotary making a difference, which is what we live by, and we’re all proud.”

The RCAS Pediatric Village is typically a back-to-school health fair to help students get ready for the school year. However the event was postponed until today because of the recent storms.

Physicians, nurses and students from the American University of Antigua (a sponsor of the event) volunteered their time and expertise to provide physicals, vision and hearing screenings and dental exams. In addition, families are able to get advice on diet and nutrition, first aid and much more from the many exhibitors at the event. There were also lots of activities and games to play.

“Research shows that healthy children have better attendance and perform better in school and that has always been one of our main goals when we started this community project,” said Pediatric Committee Chair, Jenelle Allen.
