Senior leaders and stakeholders convene for National Dialogue on Accelerating SDGs in A&B

Senior policymakers, including Permanent Secretaries, Directors, and Department Heads joined forces with private sector representatives, civil society organizations and technical experts at the Royalton Resort and Spa at Five Islands, on November 17–18, for a two-day National Consultation on the SDG Acceleration Roadmap.

A press release from the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator said that the conference was convened by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, and the Government of Antigua and Barbuda through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Barbuda Affairs.

The consultation provided a collaborative platform to generate actionable strategies for fast-tracking progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ahead of the 2030 deadline.

Participants engaged in interactive sessions and thematic discussions aimed at identifying priority interventions across key sectors, strengthening multi-stakeholder partnerships and mobilizing resources to address urgent development challenges, including climate resilience, food security, digital transformation and social protection.

Key objectives of the consultation included: Reviewing progress on SDG implementation and identifying gaps; Aligning national priorities with global commitments under the 2030 Agenda, and Developing a clear and practical roadmap for accelerated action in the 2026–2030 period.

The consultant preparing the roadmap learned firsthand from the stakeholders the challenges and opportunities of their work on the ground that will support acceleration of the SDGs.

The consultation concluded with a shared commitment to enhanced coordination and collaboration among government, private sector, and civil society actors to ensure that no one is left behind in Antigua and Barbuda’s sustainable development journey.
