Sir Vivian Richards Expresses
Speaking on a morning radio show, legendary West Indies Captain and National Hero Sir Vivian Richards shared his optimistic views on the current West Indies team following their recent victory over England.
Richards emphasized that the West Indies team has the talent to compete with anyone. “Man for man, we are as good as any,” he declared, highlighting the depth of the batting lineup that includes players like Akeal Hosein batting deep in the order. He stressed that the team now needs to believe in their abilities and focus on execution.
The Caribbean side won their first two matches of the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup beating Scotland last Saturday and then England days after.
Richards praised the team’s disciplined performance against England, calling it a “huge step” to dismantle such a dangerous opponent. He noted that despite concerns about the bowling attack being a potential weak link, the team controlled England effectively. “The belief has to be there now,” he insisted, urging the players to take inspiration from that result.
“All these teams now, anyone can be beaten,” he said, adding that West Indies players must approach each day believing “today is going to be my day.”
Richards highlighted that the squad is filled with players who have proven themselves as match-winners in franchise cricket around the world. He urged them to bring that individual success to the West Indies unit. “I believe we can go all the way,” he concluded confidently, expressing hope that the team maintains their momentum throughout the tournament. West Indies will play Nepal on Sunday at 1:30 am before playing Italy at the same time on Thursday.
