The ill-fated Sunshine Hub car park on Independence Avenue, which has stood incomplete for nearly a decade, will soon be put to use.
Cabinet has announced that the Government of Antigua and Barbuda has bought the derelict property for US$6 million from the receivers, and is now joining in a public/private partnership to prepare it for use.
A major project of the previous United Progressive Party-administration, the unfinished Sunshine Hub has been described by Chief of Staff Lionel ‘Max’ Hurst as “an eyesore and a monstrosity of a monument of the previous administration’s bad judgment.”
He said the building will soon have portions of its office space built-up and readied for commercial use.
“During the coming month the building will be refurbished by at least 100 workers who will labour around the clock to ready it for occupancy. The East Bus Station area will be improved significantly,” Hurst said.
