Swiss Crew Wins World’s Toughest Row, Finishes Atlantic Crossing in Antigua

A four-man rowing team from Switzerland has claimed overall victory in the World’s Toughest Row, completing a grueling transatlantic crossing and arriving at Nelson’s Dockyard after more than a month at sea.

Team 44 West — made up of Julian, Luca, Lorenzo and Matthias — completed the roughly 3,000-mile journey from La Gomera to Antigua in 31 days, 8 hours and 8 minutes, securing the fastest overall time in the race.

The team was one of 43 crews competing in this year’s edition of the endurance event, which featured 114 rowers representing 20 nations. Crews crossed the Atlantic in ocean rowing boats, battling extreme fatigue, shifting weather conditions and long stretches of isolation at sea.

The race traditionally concludes in Antigua, where crews are welcomed after weeks of continuous rowing across the Atlantic Ocean.

Organizers extended best wishes to the remaining teams still at sea as they continue their crossings toward Antigua.
