Trio Charged Customs Officer
The wheels of justice are set to begin turning on February 18 when three men accused of ending the life of Customs Officer Nigel Christian will finally stand trial in the High Court.
Justice Rajiv Persaud will hear the case against Lasean Bully of Cashew Hill, Wayne Thomas of Hatton, and Saleim Harrigan of Greenbay, who maintain their innocence in Christian’s death.
On July 10, 2020, the 44-year-old senior Customs official was abducted from his McKinnons home. Hours later his body, which bore multiple gunshot wounds, was discovered in the Thibou’s area.
The investigation culminated in murder charges against the three men in April 2021. The case spent months in the All Saints Magistrate’s Court before advancing to the High Court, where it was scheduled for the January 2023 assizes.
During the committal hearing in the Magistrate’s court, prosecutors said they had assembled a case featuring DNA evidence, cell tower records, mobile phone data, video footage, and additional documentation and indicated that they had more than 50 potential witnesses could testify at trial.
After additional postponements, the men, who were formally arraigned before Justice Ann-Marie Smith in January 2024, denied the charge.
