Tropical Disturbance Moves West with 80% Chance of Cyclone Formation

October 20, 2025
in News, Sport

A tropical wave that had been producing heavy rainfall and gusty winds over the eastern Caribbean Sea has moved away from the region, the National Weather Service reported on Monday.

The system, designated as AL98, was monitored closely after forecasters indicated an 80% chance of cyclone formation within seven days. The wave had been moving westward at 15 to 20 mph towards the central Caribbean Sea, raising concerns for the Windward, Leeward, and ABC Islands.

“Environmental conditions had become increasingly conducive for development, and a tropical depression or storm was likely to form over the next few days,” the advisory stated. Despite this, the system has now shifted, leaving local waters and skies clear.

Residents of the Windward and Leeward Islands experienced periods of heavy rain and gusty winds earlier in the week, though forecasters noted these were beginning to subside.

Forecasters had advised mariners to consult High Seas Forecasts for Gale Warnings and updates on the system. The risk of formation over the next 48 hours was assessed at 50%, while the seven-day outlook had indicated a high probability of 80%.

Authorities continue to monitor tropical activity in the Caribbean, emphasizing preparedness during the hurricane season.
