VIDEO: PM Says Some Treasury Staff Paid by Big Business to Fast-Track Large Payments, While Poor People Can’t Get Paid
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has alleged that certain Treasury employees are being compensated by powerful businesspeople to prioritize their payments ahead of smaller local suppliers owed by the government.
Speaking on his weekly radio programme on Saturday, Browne said the practice has led to unfair delays for small contractors and vendors, some of whom have waited years to be paid while larger players get rapid disbursements.
The Prime Minister said he has directed the Accountant General to stop issuing large payments or check exchanges without Cabinet approval.
