(PRESS RELEASE)

The Ministry of Works and Housing is reporting a certain setback at the Burma Quarry is preventing the facility from operating at its normal capacity but the Bendals Quarry is presently operational.

The initial plan included producing stone that would be utilised during the full implementation of the Road Infrastructure and Rehabilitation Project scheduled to begin within the first quarter of 2018.

Acting Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Works and Housing, Clarance Pilgrim said:

“The Ministry of Works is in the process of dealing with a manufacture fault which developed at the Burma Quarry that is hampering operations there,” adding that “within the shortest possible time, the multi-million dollar aggregate crushing facility will be fully operational.

I am pleased to report that the new component has since been ordered by the manufacturer and will be on island and installed by mid-January of 2018.” Mr Pilgrim concluded.

Works and Housing Engineers have stated that the limitation is caused by a manufacturing defect with metal detector mechanism of the plant.

In the meantime, Works and Housing Engineers are continuing asphalt patching and concrete drains works across the island with workforce remaining busy into the holiday season and beyond.

Therefore, there is a call for drivers to be mindful of the Road Construction Engineers whose lives are at risk working to improve the condition of the island’s road network.
