Work Progressing on Bolans Fire Station, Says Minister Maria Browne

in News, Sport

Construction on the long-awaited Bolans Fire Station is moving forward, according to an update from Minister of Works Maria Vanessa Browne.

In a social media post shared this week, Browne said work is progressing steadily at the site, which sits adjacent to the recently refurbished Bolans Police Station. She noted that the development forms part of the government’s continued investment in strengthening public safety infrastructure across the country.

The Bolans Fire Station project has been under public discussion for several years. Residents and opposition representatives have previously voiced frustration over delays, describing the facility as essential to emergency response for the southern communities of St. Mary’s South, including Bolans, Urlings, and Crab Hill.

Last year, St. Mary’s South MP Kelvin Simon called for urgent fire safety reforms after a blaze in Urlings, citing the government’s “failure—year after year—to complete the Bolans Fire Station.” In earlier updates, government officials said the project was on schedule, while residents continued to await the station’s opening and proper equipment, including a dedicated fire truck.

Browne’s latest statement suggests visible progress at the site, renewing optimism that the long-promised facility may soon become operational.

The Ministry of Works is overseeing construction in collaboration with the Antigua and Barbuda Fire Department. Once completed, the Bolans Fire Station is expected to enhance emergency response capacity and provide greater protection to surrounding communities in the island’s southwest.
