Ags Celebrates Science Quiz

The Antigua Grammar School (AGS) is celebrating a major victory in national academic competitions held this week after they won the Junior Science Quiz.

The AGS team — comprised of third-form students Jayden Baptiste, Alexander Simon, and Odari Hodge — defeated St. Joseph’s Academy to win the 2026 title.

AGS Principal Samuel Roberts said the victory is a proud moment for the school, which is celebrating 142 years of existence.

“I’m very proud of the boys. I know that they work hard,” Roberts said. “It is always heartwarming as a school to know that our best is still good enough to put us at the top.”

The win followed a strict practice schedule. Roberts noted that the science team worked with department head Elton Isaacs and the students practiced during their lunch breaks and after school to prepare for the event.

He added that the students succeeded because they remained calm and focused. “These boys are very confident that they can do it. There isn’t the nervousness that they might not have the skillset; they know very well that they have the skill set,” he added.

One of the parents of the winning students also expressed pride in their accomplishment.

The father of Alexander Simon, said the family was very happy with the result. He noted that the achievement was a reward for the long hours of study the students put in. “It made me very proud. I wasn’t too surprised because he did put in the effort but still the outcome always makes the parent proud” he said.

Simon’s father also attributed his success to the teachers at his school.

“I know he worked hard…. I’ve seen the teachers at the Grammar School actually push him towards the work. But he really did put in the effort.

Principal Roberts said it hopes these achievements will inspire other students at the institution to believe in their own abilities and prepare well for future challenges.
