Antigua Spay & Neuter Clinic Urges Responsible Pet Ownership in 2026

January 10, 2026
in News, Sport

The Antigua Spay & Neuter Clinic is calling on pet owners to make 2026 a turning point for responsible animal care, warning that many common illnesses and animal welfare issues are easily preventable.

In a public appeal, the clinic stressed the importance of early and routine vaccinations, noting that diseases such as parvovirus and leptospirosis can be prevented by starting vaccines in puppyhood and maintaining annual boosters.

The clinic also encouraged regular deworming, explaining that while wormers are often used only when pets become ill, consistent treatment helps prevent serious health complications.

Pet owners were urged to remain vigilant against fleas and ticks, which the clinic said can be fatal if left untreated. Preventive tablets and treatments are widely available and effective when used properly.

Addressing the island’s ongoing stray animal problem, the clinic highlighted spaying and neutering as a key solution to reducing unwanted litters, minimizing stress during heat cycles, and preventing roaming dog packs. The clinic said arrangements for the procedures can be made with a single phone call.

The appeal also reinforced basic animal welfare standards, including access to food, water, and shelter, while emphasizing the need for owners to keep pets on their own property rather than allowing them to roam freely.

The clinic urged residents to reflect on their responsibilities as pet owners, saying that small, consistent actions can significantly improve animal health and community safety.
