Bus Driver Convicted Indecent

A bus driver has been found guilty of indecent assault by a jury, after a trial that laid bare a calculated sequence of events targeting a 12-year-old girl travelling alone.

The court heard that on April 1, 2022, the young victim boarded Kenroy Graham’s bus at the West Bus Station, bound for Coolidge. When she stepped off at her stop, she bumped her head and, in the process, dropped her headphones. Graham offered to allow her to look for them once he had completed his route and dropped off the remaining passengers.

With his last passenger gone, Graham deviated from his regular route, turned down a side road and brought the vehicle to a stop. He left his seat, approached the girl, and began asking her personal questions about her age and living situation. He then rubbed her upper thigh, told her that he wanted her to be his girlfriend, and asked to perform oral sex on her.

The girl then told him she needed to go home and Graham returned to his seat. As she was leaving the bus, he asked her to keep what had happened between them a secret. The minor then ran home and immediately told her aunt. A police report was filed that same day.

Graham denied everything at trial, offering an unsworn statement from the dock – meaning he could not be cross-examined – in which he claimed the entire incident had been fabricated by someone trying to push him off his bus route to secure more work for themselves.

However, the jury was not convinced and they rejected his defence and returned a guilty verdict.

He was then remanded to prison and will return to court on March 31 for sentencing.
