Consumer Affairs Alerts Drivers

The Prices and Consumer Affairs Division has alerted motorists to a major Nissan recall covering 600,595 e-POWER vehicles after a software fault was found that could cause a loss of driving power while a vehicle is moving.

Nissan announced the recall in Japan for the Note, Note Aura and X-Trail models manufactured between November 12, 2020, and April 6, 2026. The affected vehicles comprise 322,023 Note models from model years 2020 to 2026; 183,828 Note Aura models from 2021 to 2026; and 94,744 X-Trail models from 2022 to 2026.

The affected model codes are 6AA-E13 and 6AA-SNE13 for the Note; 6AA-FE13 and 6AA-FSNE13 for the Note Aura; and 6AA-T33 and 6AA-SNT33 for the X-Trail.

The vehicles use Nissan’s e-POWER hybrid system, in which a petrol engine generates electricity and an electric motor, powered by a lithium-ion battery, drives the wheels. The battery controller manages and regulates the flow of energy.

According to Nissan, incorrect programme logic may, under certain conditions, falsely detect a fault, trigger an EV system warning on the instrument panel and reduce the traction motor’s output. In the most serious cases, power to the drive motor may be cut while the vehicle is moving, leaving it unable to continue.

Nissan said the problem will be corrected by updating the lithium-ion battery controller with revised software. The recall repair will be carried out free of charge.
