Daniel Questions Whether Status

He said the swift government attention given to the Free Trade Zone owner contrasted sharply with slower responses to other victims, such as murdered gas station owner George “Charlie” Barnes.

Querying whether affluent victims receive priority, Dr Daniel urged police to release basic facts about the attack on Mr Zhang, including whether he was alone, if witnesses were present, or whether a suspect has been identified.

The police force has kept investigation details private. Dr Daniel argued that withholding routine information erodes public trust rather than protecting the probe.

He linked the handling of the case to a broader collapse in public faith, citing police misconduct allegations and a low solve rate as evidence of a deeper crisis within the force.

According to Dr Daniel, out of roughly 6,000 reported crimes in a single year, officers made fewer than 800 arrests.

That estimate is significantly higher than figures in the latest Cabinet crime report, which recorded 2,163 offences between January and August 2025, compared to 2,533 during the same period in 2024. The official report did not publish arrest totals, preventing independent verification of Dr Daniel’s claims.

While acknowledging the opening of a new forensic laboratory as positive, Dr Daniel maintained that technology alone cannot repair the trust deficit without operational transparency.

He called for immediate updates on the shooting and urged authorities to treat all victims with equal urgency, emphasising that equal protection under the law requires equal transparency in police investigations.
