The 21-year-old Hungarian national is expected to leave Antigua and Barbuda today under escort after immigration checks revealed an Interpol alert linked to allegations in his home country.
A routine immigration violation has taken an international turn after authorities in Antigua and Barbuda discovered that a 21-year-old Hungarian man was wanted in his home country in connection with an alleged offence involving children.
The young man, whose identity has not been disclosed, is expected to be escorted back to Hungary today, Thursday, October 8, following weeks in local custody.
According to information reported by Observer Media, the Hungarian national arrived in Antigua on March 22 and was granted permission to remain until June 20. However, he failed to leave the country when his authorised stay expired.
His presence reportedly came to the attention of local authorities after he was intercepted at sea by the Antigua and Barbuda Coast Guard and handed over to the police.
Sources indicated that he spent approximately one week in police custody before being transferred to the Immigration Department, where he was subsequently charged with overstaying.
Further checks by immigration officials reportedly revealed an Interpol alert seeking his arrest in Hungary in connection with the alleged child-related offence.
The man appeared before a local court approximately two weeks ago on the immigration charge and was remanded until today, October 8.
Meanwhile, correspondence dated September 23 from authorities in Budapest indicated that two Hungarian officials were scheduled to arrive in Antigua on October 3 to facilitate his return.
He is expected to leave Antigua and Barbuda under their escort today, although confirmation of his departure has not yet been provided.
Details surrounding the alleged offence in Hungary have not been disclosed, and there has been no indication that the man committed any similar offence while in Antigua and Barbuda.
The allegations against him remain unproven.

Allegations or not, anything involving children is serious business. But Antigua cyah become hiding place for people running from trouble overseas. If Hungary want him, send him back and let the proper courts deal with the matter. We small island but we not blind.
