Independent Candidate Says Willing
Nigel Bascus, the leader of the Missing Link – Voice of the People Party (MLVOP), said that his primary goal after the April 30 General Elections is to work with whichever party forms the next government.
Bascus, who’s contesting the St John’s Rural West seat, stated that his priority is the nation’s progress over political rivalry.
“My plan is to get whoever wins government. I plan to go and work with them,” Bascus said in an interview with Observer Media. He emphasized that even if he is not victorious in his individual bid, he remains committed to collaborating with the administration to implement his plans for the country’s youth and agricultural sectors.
While he is willing to assist any winning party, Bascus explained that he is seeking a seat in Parliament to ensure his proposals are taken seriously. He argued that having a direct voice in the House allows for policies to be moved “quicker than if you just go to them”, noting that his previous attempts to work with ministers as a private citizen often resulted in unfulfilled promises.
By holding a seat, Bascus believes he can force a vote on critical issues, thereby challenging both sides of the aisle to prove their commitment to the country.
Bascus is centering his collaborative offer on food security and industry expansion. As the owner of Missing Link International, he said he wants to use his decades of experience in fishing and shark oil production to help the government build factories and increase exports.
“Two heads are better than one,” Bascus said, urging a shift away from political bickering.
“Instead of busy fighting, we should be busy serving our country and making things better for people.”
