LIAT says pilots will not strike tomorrow

May 24, 2017
in News

LIAT has announced that its pilots have “withdrawn” their threat of industrial action following a meeting today.

The meeting included members of LIAT’s management and the Leeward Islands Airline Pilots Association (LIALPA) and was hosted by the Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin.

The carrier says flights will operate tomorrow, Thursday 25th May as scheduled but did not indicate what led to the resolution.

LIAT said in a statement “the discussions were cordial and the Management and pilots have reached a mutually amicable decision on outstanding issues.”

“LIAT continues to assure its passengers that it is committed to ensuring smooth operations for our customers across the region and advises passengers to check in on time as scheduled,” it added.

On Monday LIALPA wrote to members asking them to prepare for protest action on May 25th, 2017. The pilots are angry that LIAT has not honoured an agreement reached in January so salary upgrades for pilots.
