Peetron Thomas, a local multi genre artiste, has been nominated for the 29th Texas Gospel Music Excellence Awards in the International Male Soloist category.
During an interview with Observer Media, Thomas reflected on the moments leading up to receiving the news.
“The first time I found out I was actually live on my TV show and I got a call from the ambassador [saying] I’ve been nominated and the details will be sent to my email in a few days. Last night I checked my email and realized I had been nominated for international male vocal male soloists,” he said, adding he felt a mix of elation and surprise having received the news.
According to Thomas, the award nominated song, titled Broken Pieces, was released in January this year, despite having been composed almost 10 years ago.
“I had that song for nearly 10 years now because my faith has been tested and I’ve been going through so much in my journey, I hold it back and I said really and truly this is the song of the testimony of my life,” he said.
Thomas also reflected on the level of representation this nomination opened for gospel music in Antigua and the wider Caribbean.
“It means a lot, it means so much — a great representation to see gospel music reaching its high standard from Antigua to the international realm,” he said, adding that he hopes to be a strong representative for his family, country and the wider Caribbean.
“I’m reaching that international standard that I could even be a nominee in this regard,” he said, adding his intention that the song can encourage churches to add it to their worship list.
Organizers have announced that public voting opened on May 8th, 2026, and will close on June 8th, 2026.
Supporters are encouraged to participate in the voting process; however, all 19 categories must be voted for in order for a ballot to be valid.
