Recalled Vehicles May Not
Harney Motors said it has received no official confirmation that vehicles supplied locally are among those flagged in a series of international recall notices.
The authorized dealer for Kia, Ford, Toyota, and Lexus in Antigua and Barbuda said customers should not be alarmed, as the models cited in recent international recall notices may not have been sold through local channels.
“We are aware of international recall notices affecting specific manufacturers and vehicle models in certain markets,” said Dyna Harney-Barnes, general manager of Harney Motors. “Some of the models referenced in recent reports are not sold through our authorized channels in Antigua and Barbuda,” she added.
Harney-Barnes said that should any local vehicles be identified as affected, customers will be notified promptly and the necessary actions taken.
The remarks follow a series of advisories issued by the Prices and Consumer Affairs Division, which alerted the public that Kia, Ford, Toyota, and Lexus have collectively initiated recalls affecting more than 306,000 vehicles across multiple model years in international markets.
The defects cited range from fuel pipe and fuel pump failures to headlight software faults and inadequate pedestrian warning sounds.
The Division reminded the public that under the Consumer Protection Act, consumers are not required to pay for any repairs related to a manufacturer’s safety recall.
