Regional Competition Aims Discover
The Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre is inviting young people from across CARICOM to put their vision of the future into words, with the launch of the CCCCC Youth Short Story Competition on July 27, 2026, open to CARICOM nationals aged 18 to 25.
The competition invites young people to write an original short story responding to the prompt: “Imagine a climate-secure future for the world. Inspired by the Caribbean.”
Lead Communications Specialist Danelle De Coteau-Campbell explained in a recent press release.
“The future of climate action will be shaped not only by data and science but also by the stories we tell and the ideas we inspire. Through this competition, we are inspiring the youth to imagine a climate secure Caribbean and to protect our culture, our people and our homes and this is our way of handing them the pen. We are excited to see how participants will give life to their ideas and in doing so, inspire meaningful conversations about the future we all share.”
The release added that the competition forms part of CCCCC’s broader effort to engage young people as active voices in the region’s climate response while raising awareness of Caribbean climate realities and Caribbean-led solutions.
Participants must submit an original, unpublished short story of 1500-2500 words via the competition webpage on caribbeanclimate.org. AI-generated entries will not be accepted.
The top prize is a MacBook Neo, with additional prizes awarded for second and third place finalists.
