Senator Chester Hughes kicked out of parliament

May 19, 2017
in News

Opposition Senator Chester Hughes was ejected from the senate today, over an incident which also saw a death threat being made against a fellow colleague.

Senate President Alincia Williams-Grant who apparently had enough of Hughes, invoked Section 42 of the Standing Orders after she failed to remove him via a motion.

Hughes and the president disagreed over a ruling she made regarding an apology from senate majority leader Lennox Weston.

Earlier, Weston threatened to carry Senator Damani Tabor to the Parham Wharf and drown him over statements he made about the prime minister’s wife.

Williams-Grant and Hughes disagreed and she removed him from the house “for the remainder of the sitting.”

Senator Hughes told a local radio station here, that instead of being a referee, the president became a member for the other side.

In a statement, the United Progressive Party condemned what it called “the unfair ejection of Senator Chester Hughes as he sought to obtain an apology from Senator Weston who again refused to amend his reprehensible conduct.”
