shock concern sunday shootings - Shock, Concern at Sunday Shootings: One

Some members of the public have expressed shock and concern following two separate shooting incidents yesterday: one left a man dead and another hospitalized with serious injuries and a second reportedly involved a man being shot during an incident with police in Parham.

Shock Concern Sunday Shootings

Police have identified the homicide victim as 29-year-old Leyandrew Hubbard of Potters.

According to a police media release, officers responded to reports of a shooting on Ladoo Road in Potters at about 10:30 and found Hubbard lying unresponsive on the southern side of the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead at 12:37 p.m.

Police say preliminary investigations indicate Hubbard and several other people were playing cards beneath a shed when a lone gunman approached the group and opened fire.

A second victim, a man from Urlings, was also shot during the incident. Police said he sustained a gunshot wound to his back and was transported by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where he remains in critical condition and is expected to undergo surgery.

The motive for the shooting has not been established.

The Commissioner of Police Everton Jeffers and the Police Administration have extended condolences to Hubbard’s family and friends as investigations into the fatal shooting continue.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at 462-3913 or 462-3914, or Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477). The Police Administration is also appealing directly to the suspect to surrender at the nearest police station.

In a separate incident about an hour earlier, reports indicate that a man was allegedly shot during an encounter with police in Parham. The circumstances surrounding that incident remain unclear. Police investigations into this incident remain ongoing.
