Shoy Bailed Pending Appeal After Murder Case Dismissal

shoy bailed pending appeal - Shoy Bailed Pending Appeal After Murder

Shoy Bailed – Jahciba Shoy has been granted bail after the prosecution filed notice of its intention to appeal following the High Court dismissed the murder case against him.

Shoy Bailed Pending Appeal

The High Court granted Shoy bail in the sum of $10,000, with two sureties, on Tuesday. The bail conditions do not require a cash deposit.

Although the charges were dismissed last week after the court upheld a no-case submission by the defence, Shoy was not immediately released because the prosecution filed the notice of intention to appeal the ruling. He then exercised his right to apply for bail, which was granted.

Defence attorney Wendel Alexander had argued that the prosecution’s evidence was too weak to support a conviction and amounted to no more than suspicion and speculation. He also submitted it would be unsafe to leave the matter to the jury, to which the judge agreed and upheld the no-case submission.

The charges arose from the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Syrian national Roudi Shmaly during a robbery at the Pick ‘n Mix Mart on DeSouza Road in May 2023.
