SLBMC introduces stricter Emergency Department visitor rules

August 29, 2025
in News, Sport

Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) will enforce new visiting hours and tighter security measures in its Emergency Department from Monday, 1 September.

Under the revised policy, visiting will be limited to two daily windows: 11:00–13:00 and 17:00–20:00. Each patient may have a maximum of two visitors, and children under 12 will not be allowed in the department.

Visitors must check in at the front desk, undergo health screening, and wear identification badges. Exceptions will be made for patients needing continuous support, such as minors, elderly persons, and those with disabilities or mental health conditions.

Dr Olsheath Bowen, Chair of the Emergency Department, said the move balances “compassionate, patient-centred care” with safety and efficiency. Medical Director Dr Shivon Belle-Jarvis added the changes align with international best practices and staff well-being priorities.

Property drop-offs and pick-ups will remain available around the clock, and mask requirements will be adjusted based on public health guidance.

The updated guidelines will be displayed at the Emergency Department entrance and shared on SLBMC’s platforms.
