Senior men’s sprinter Cejhae Greene and flourishing women’s sprinter Geolyna Dowdye, were both eliminated in the semifinals round of the men’s and women’s 100 meters events on Tuesday at the 2026 Commonwealth Games being held in Glasgow, Scotland.
Sprinters Exit Commonwealth Games
Greene, contesting semifinal 3, registered a time of 10.19 seconds to finish sixth. The race was won by South Africa’s Gift Leotlela in 10.02 seconds while Australia’s Edward Nketia finished second in 10.03 seconds. Ackeem Blake of Jamaica was third in 10.06 seconds. Only the top two finishers advanced to the final.
Meanwhile, Dowdye registered a season’s best of 11.45 seconds but finished seventh in her semifinal heat. Torrie Lewis of Australia won the race in 11:00 seconds with Canada’s Audrey Leduc finishing second in 11.01 seconds. Jodean Williams of Jamaica was third in 11.13 seconds.
The country’s lone field athlete at the games, Christopher Johnson, registered a throw of 14.79 meters in the Men’s Shotput event. Johnson finished 13th overall.
There was action in swimming as well with Bianca Mitchell clocking 27.83 seconds to finish fifth in Heat 4 of the Women’s 50 meters Freestyle. The time was not good enough to push the Antiguan into the next round of the competition.
