“Stronger Together: Building a Resilient Future for Antigua and Barbuda”

As we welcome a New Year, I extend blessings and warm greetings to the people of Antigua and Barbuda, and especially to my dear community of St. John’s Rural South. This is not just a New Year greeting. It is a moment for us to pause together, to breathe, and to honestly reflect on the year that has passed and the road ahead.

Over the past year, many of us have carried quiet worries. We have seen changes in government, uncertainty within our region, shifting global relationships, and concerns about security, food access, and travel. For a small island nation like ours, these realities remind us how quickly life can change and how much we depend on one another.

So as we move forward, we must do so with the lessons of yesterday firmly in mind.

The world is changing around us, often without considering the needs of small nations like Antigua and Barbuda. That means we must place our people, our communities, and our survival first. One simple but powerful act is reconnecting with the land. Backyard gardening, even on the smallest scale, strengthens not only our food security but also our sense of dignity and independence. One seed, one plant, one tree can be the beginning of hope. Truly, little is much when God is in it.

But resilience is built not only in the soil, but in the heart of the community. It grows when we know our neighbours, when we check on each other, when we share, trade, support, and lift one another. We work and pray for the best, yet wisdom teaches us to be prepared should circumstances change.

God is always present. But He also calls us to act. To care. To live with compassion. We must never forget that life is uncertain. Today’s hardship may belong to one family, but tomorrow it may be ours. Them today can be us tomorrow. Let us choose empathy over judgement, and unity over division.

Yet through everything, a quiet truth remains. Where there is life, there is hope. As we say farewell to 2025, we give thanks that we have lived to see 2026. If we still have breath, then we still have purpose. We still have the ability to build, to heal, to grow, and to believe in brighter days ahead. Let us enter this New Year with courage in our hearts, faith in God, and confidence in each other.

Let us renew our commitment to uplifting our youth, who represent the promise of tomorrow. Let us cherish and support our seniors, who carried us here through sacrifice and strength. Let us open our hands to those in need. Let us choose respect, kindness, fairness, and justice. And above all, let us remember that there is great power in unity. When we stand together, we cannot be easily shaken.

May 2026 be a year of wisdom, resilience, compassion, and shared purpose for Antigua and Barbuda. Let us move forward as one people, with clear minds, steady hearts, and faith that God is guiding our steps.

Together, we rise. Together, we move forward.
