Thomas James Dominate Men
Kamar Thomas and Anika James were crowed champions in the men’s and women’s 10K run during the Hurricane Power Athletic Club’s Cool & Smooth/Joma Caribbean sponsored 2K, 5K and 10K Run/Walk held on Sunday.
Thomas, also the national champion, registered a time of 36 minutes and 12 seconds to finish ahead of an impressive field. Claiming silver was Devon James who clocked 38 minutes and 29 seconds while national kite-boarder and Olympian, Tiger Tyson, registered a time of 38 minutes and 48 seconds to claim the bronze medal.
Meanwhile, James claimed the women’s equivalent, clocking 53 minute and 44 seconds to secure the top podium position in the women’s 10K event. She finished ahead of Sheena Gooding who clocked 56 minutes and 24 seconds in the silver medal position while Sofi Bown finished third in a time of 59 minutes and 24 seconds.
The men’s 10K walk was dominated by Shonneal Francis who registered a time of 1:21.34 while Nicole Richards won the women’s division in a time of 1:36.53. Pat McDonald (1:39.00) and Aliya Rodrigues (1:42.00) were second and third respectively in the women’s division.
In the 5K competition, Chazan Gunn topped the men’s division in a time of 18 minutes and 59 seconds while Shea Whyte was champion in the women’s division, clocking a time of 28 minutes and 53 seconds.
The men’s 5K walk was taken by Ernest Davis in a time of 31 minutes and 33 seconds while the men’s 2K run was captured by Oshea Lake in a time of 12 minutes and 19 seconds. The women’s equivalent of the 2K run was claimed by Ajauigue Christmas in a time of 12 minutes and 58 seconds.
Alaquan Galloway clocked 22 minutes and 49 seconds to win the men’s 2K walk.
