The Treasury Department said retroactive salary payments have been issued to eligible public sector workers across a wide range of ministries, departments and statutory offices, but several public servants say they are still waiting to receive their money.

The update comes after weeks of expectation among government employees, many of whom had been looking to the end of April as the latest deadline for the long-awaited back pay exercise.
The back pay stems from negotiated agreements between the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and public sector unions and bargaining agents, which resulted in salary increases and other benefit adjustments for eligible public officers.
In its latest update, the Treasury said payments had been issued as of Wednesday, April 29, to eligible workers in a broad cross-section of the public service.
The department said it had been aiming to complete most of the retroactive payments during April 2026, with a further update expected on May 15.
The Treasury also said eligible pensioned and separated public servants were included in the disbursement process.
However, the announcement has not ended concerns among workers. Several public servants have indicated that, despite their departments appearing on the Treasury’s list, they have not yet received their payments.
The matter is also drawing attention because the government had first pointed to a March 31, 2026 target to settle outstanding retroactive salary payments. That timeline was later shifted, with officials indicating that all outstanding payments to public servants, along with payments related to teacher upgrades, would be completed by the end of April.
The Treasury said payments were issued to eligible public sector workers in the following ministries, departments and offices: Office of the Governor General; House of Representatives; Cabinet Office; Judicial Department; Public Service Commission; Office of the Auditor General; Electoral Commission; Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ministry of Civil Aviation; Prison; Ministry of Agriculture; Surveys; Development Control Authority; Ministry of Works; Labour Department; Civil Aviation; Ministry of Tourism; Land Registry.
Also, eligible pensioned and separated public servants; Central Board of Health; Ministry of Sports; Prices and Consumers Affairs Division; Bureau of Standards; Culture and Festivals Division; Office of the National Drug Control Policy, ONDCP; Office of the Prime Minister; Ministry of Education, including ABICE, ABIIT, ASC, Primary and Secondary schools, Headquarters and Administration; Ministry of Finance; Ministry of Social Transformation; Ministry of Information and Communication Technology; Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force; Immigration; Civil Registry; Office of the Director of Public Prosecution; Family Court; Ministry of Health; Emergency Medical Services; Magistrate Court; Police; Fire; Passport Office; Public Safety; Post Office.
