Tyson Claims Silver Ends

Olympian Kiteboarder, Tiger Tyson, brought home Antigua and Barbuda’s lone medal at the 2026 CAC Games which ended Saturday, August 8th in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Tyson, competing in the Men’s Kite competition, finished with a total of 41 points to grab silver ahead of Mexico’s Vazquez Guerrero who won bronze. Corniel Javier of the Dominican Republic won gold.
Speaking with Observer media following his performance, Tyson who became the first Antiguan to compete at the Olympics in kiteboarding when he took part in the 2024 summer games held in Paris, said conditions in the Dominican Republic were ideal for racing.
“We had really strong winds every day, like over 30 knots every day, so yeah, it was a good experience and good to test the limits to see that I can still perform in those conditions, so I was happy about that. Not much I could have done differently, I don’t think. I mean, the guy who won from the Dominican Republic, he was pretty dominant. He thrives in those conditions so it was his week, but I’m still very happy with how I performed and certain parts of my racing that I was able to do better than everyone else,” he said.
The athlete said the goal is to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games set for Los Angeles, USA.
“I’ll have to do the World Championship in January to qualify for the Pan American Games and then the Pan American Games is Olympic qualifier. So yeah, one step at a time and I’ll do my best to put myself in a position to make it happen, so let’s see,” Tyson said.
In other results at the CAC Games over the weekend, weightlifters Kevesha Nedwell and Daniel Antonio exited the Women’s 75K and Men’s 110K competitions respectively, bringing the curtains down on the twin-island state’s participation at the 2026 event.
