Wins 300 Buckleys Survivors
While there were pauses in some sporting disciplines to accommodate the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party’s Megacade, there were none for the Softball Cricket Association as the schedule went ahead as planned. Some tight victories were claimed by 300 and Buckleys in the Men’s Competition, while Survivors and Flyers’ convincing triumphs were hallmarks of the day.
At Dredgers, 300 secured a close two-wicket win over the hosts. Batting first, Dredgers posted 162 for 5 in 24 overs, led by a composed 49, including five sixes, from Rae Charles. Mervin Higgins added a brisk 26, while Ricky Buckley chipped in with 23. Jared Roberts starred with the ball for 300, picking up 3 wickets for 31 runs from six overs.
In response, 300 chased the total down, but not without drama. Bryan Burton anchored the chase with a steadfast 46 not out, well supported by Jared Roberts (30). Contributions from Jamoy Jarvis (15) were enough to see their team home at 168 for 8 in 21 overs. Tight bowling from Robin Bascus and Kurt Douglas, both claiming 2 wickets, kept the game on a knife’s edge, but Burton’s calm under pressure earned him the Player of the Match award.
In Swetes, Buckleys 3Js posted an imposing 178 for 3 in 23 overs, thanks to 50+ knocks from Denley Thomas and Randino Turner, along with a quickfire 36 from Steve Martin. PMS were kept in check thanks to tight spells by Vishal Gobin (2/20) and Terence Thompson.
Chasing, PMS put up a strong fight, propelled by Clarence Francis’ unbeaten 64 and Charles James’ 40. However, the batting fell away in the face of Charanlall Ramjohn’s devastating 5-wicket haul (4 overs, 9 runs), as PMS managed 160 all out in 21 overs. Martin added to his all-round display with three wickets, securing Player of the Match honours.
In a disappointing turn at All Saints, Mix Up Stars forfeited their fixture to the T10 Champions Strictly Business after failing to present enough players to start the game.
Survivors maintained their strong form, comfortably chasing down Potters Uprising’s 69 for 5 from 15 overs. Nolia Elvin (30) shone with the bat for Potters but was matched by economical spells from Cerie Richards and Sacha Michael (both 2/10 from 3 overs). Survivors reached 70 for 2 in just 10.3 overs, thanks to Kimberly Anthony’s 25 and an unbeaten 20 from Stacy Bright. Anthony also took a wicket to earn Player of the Match accolades.
In Swetes, Female Flyers overcame Jennings Rockets by 18 runs after posting 91 for 8 in 15 overs, driven by Mauveuhl Simpson’s unbeaten 24 and Makada Hector’s 23. Rockets’ bowling was led by Valarie Isaac and Patara Francis, each with 3 wickets.
In reply, Rockets were restricted to 73 for 9. Kushana David top-scored with 30, but consistent wickets from Akida Francis (3/15), Gaynel Ogarro (2/8), and Vanetta Bachelor stifled their chase. Makada Hector’s batting heroics saw her named Player of the Match.
