Young Lyrics Takes Antigua to Grenada: A Cultural and Musical Exchange

in News, Sport

Antiguan soca artist Young Lyrics is aiming to expand his reach across the region. After placing 1st runner-up in the 2025 Antigua Groovy Party Monarch competition, he set out on a promotional trip to Grenada from August 10th–15th. His goal was to push his music while proudly carrying Antigua’s culture with him.

A Warm Grenadian Welcome

Young Lyrics described his first encounter with Grenada’s people and culture as deeply inspiring. “It was great experiencing the strong Grenada culture for the first time,” he shared, reflecting on the warmth and energy of the island.

He was particularly struck by how receptive Grenadian audiences were to his music: “Seeing how Grenadian people respond to my music is a great feeling.”

At the same time, witnessing how Grenadians celebrated their own artists left a lasting impression. “Seeing how the citizens of Grenada embrace their own soca artist music was a happy feeling,” he said, highlighting the pride Grenadians take in their cultural identity.

Lessons in History and Culture

Young Lyrics’ trip was more than just music. He immersed himself in Grenada’s history, gaining a new appreciation for the role of culture in shaping identity. “Learning about the culture of slavery back in Grenada taught me how important selling more of our culture is,” he explained.

That experience made him reflect on his own island: “I truly love my island and all that we offer, but I believe there are always ways we can share even more of our culture with those visiting Antigua. Antiguans have so much to give to the world, and I want to be one of the people to showcase it.”

Moving Forward

The Grenada tour gave Young Lyrics a chance to connect with new audiences, learn from a rich cultural experience, and lay the groundwork for future regional growth. For him, the trip was not just about promotion, but about exchange—sharing Antigua’s spirit while also learning from the culture of another Caribbean nation.
